4140 Annealed

4140 Annealed is a high alloy steel that has good strength, toughness, and mechanical properties. Our annealed material can be heat treated to a higher hardness than the 4140-HT version is supplied.

4140-HT

4140-HT is a high alloy steel that has good strength, toughness, and mechanical properties.  4140-HT comes supplied pre-hardened at 26-32 HRC and is available in Plate, Block, Round Bar, and Precision Groundstock (as 4142-HT)

420 ESR

Our 420 ESR is an industry leading through hardening stainless steel mold material that offers excellent polishability and corrosion resistance in combination with good wear resistance, stability, and machinability. Our 420ESR material is readily available in Plate, Block, and Round Bar forms and has become the material of choice for discerning mold builders. The optimal hardness range is 45-52 HRC.

440C

440C is a high carbon chromium stainless steel that offers excellent performance in caustic plastic molds, rubber mold components, medical components, and much more.  440C has improved corrosion resistance compared to 420 ESR but lacks the machinability and polishability.  It is available in Plate and Round bar forms. The optimal hardness range is 56-60 HRC.

A10

A10 is unique air hardening cold work die steel.  This grade is stable, offers excellent wear resistance and toughness as well as outstanding non-seizing characteristics due to uniformly distributed graphite particles.  A10 is available in Plate and Round Bar forms.  The optimal hardness range is 58-64 HRC.

A11 / 10-PM

LSI 10-PM/A11 is a high vanadium powdered metal tool steel that offers superior wear resistance compared to other tool steels and high speed steels, along with good strength and toughness characteristics.  LSI’s 10-PM/A11 is available in Plate, Block, and Round bar forms.  The optimal hardness range is 60-64 HRC.

LSI PM A11 LV (9-PM) is an advanced powdered metal tool steel designed to be used in applications where high wear values are required.  LSI PM A11 LV is available in Plate, Block, and Round bar forms.  The optimal hardness range is 56-58 HRC.

A2 is one of the most popular cold work steel used in North America today.  A2 is used in numerous applications ranging from stamping, punches, fixtures, wear components, molds, and much more.  It is widely available in Plate, Block, and Round bar, Groundstock, and Drill Rod forms.  A2 offers good wear resistance, machinability, excellent stability, and hardenability.  The optimal hardness range is 56-62 HRC.

A36

Our ASTM A36 is a structural quality carbon steel for general purposes.  It is manufactured with a minimum yield point of 36 KSI.  Our A36 plates are hot rolled and offer good weldability.

D2

D2 is perhaps the most common cold work die steel used the World over.  It is a high carbon 12% chrome material that is regularly used in applications where high wear resistance and good toughness are required.  D2 is also used in plastic mold applications when abrasive resins are utilized .  D2 is widely available in Plate, Block, Round bar, Groundstock, and Drill Rod forms and offers high wear resistance, good stability, good compressive strength, and good hardenability.  The optimal hardness range is 56-62 HRC.

DC53Ⓡ (Advanced Cold Work Die Steel)

DC53® is an advanced cold work die steel. The development of DC53® was groundbreaking and ushered in a new generation of 8% Cr tool steels.  DC53® is an ideal choice for stamping or forming ultra high strength steels, stainless steels, and more. It has also proved to be a standout grade in injection molds that utilize abrasive resins. It offers an excellent combination of galling and wear resistance, superior grindability.  The material has also been produced to supply exceptional toughness and fatigue strength.  DC53® is available in Plate, Block, and Round Bar forms.  The optimal hardness range is 58-64 HRC.

DCMXⓇ

DCMX® is another recent cold work metallurgical marvel die steel: only fine carbides are distributed in matrix due to optimum alloy design and production process. DCMX® shows high performance in service and ease in tool making as well. High hardness such as 62HRC is available by high temperature tempering with good dimensional stability, resulting in high wear resistance. High toughness contributes to prevent cracking and chipping. Isotropic dimensional change works easy geometry control in heat treating. Machinability is improved by free machining additives and finely dispersed carbides. DCMX® excels when used for punches, dies and working tools for cold pressing and cold forging, especially for cold stamping dies for high strength steels where galling and wear are a primary concern.

DH21Ⓡ

DH21® is a highly specialized material that was developed to offer excellent performance in aluminum die cast dies.  This grade has good heat check resistance, good mechanical properties at high hardness, and good temper resistance.  DH21® is available in Plate and Block Forms.  The optimal hardness range is 42-48 HRC.

DH2FⓇ (37-41 Rc)

DH2F® is a pre-hardened modified H13 material that is an excellent alternative to materials like Viscount 44®.  It heavily utilized in plastic molds, zinc die cast dies, short run aluminum die cast dies, rubber molds, and much more.  DH2F® is supplied at 37-41 HRC and is available in Plate, Block, and Round bar forms.

DH31-EXⓇ

DH31-EX® is an ultra high strength, tough, and high heat check resistant hot work die steel.  It offers high toughness, high strength, high hardenability, and resistance to softening.  It excels in aluminum die cast dies, forging dies, and aluminum extrusion dies.  This material is NADCA approved.  DH31-EX® is available in Plate, Block, and Rounds*.  The optimal hardness range is 43-54 HRC.

DHA-World® is general use hot work die steel that is capable of high hardenability and high toughness.  It is readily used in large dies where higher hardenability than standard H13 is required.  DHA-World® is available in Plate and Block forms.  The optimal hardness range is 42-50 HRC.

LSI SuperMelt H13 (NADCA Spec)

Our special SuperMelt H13 is a double melted ESR H13 that meets or exceeds the stringent NADCA #207 specification and is certified Mold Quality. Marshalloy MQ/FM® is superb mold and engineering pre-hardened plate material that exhibits excellent machinability, cleanliness, and physical properties.  It is certified as Mold Quality and is provided stress relieved. This material is available in Plate form only.  It is supplied pre-hard at 26-34 HRC.

NAK 55Ⓡ (38-42 Rc)

Nitralloy 135

LSI’s NIT 135 material is high alloy nitriding steel.  This material has been developed to supply a very high hard surface condition in conjunction with good abrasion resistance.  Most often LSI supplies this material in the pre-hardened condition at 28-30 HRC.

PX5® is a high performance alternative to P20 Mod. when utilized in plastic molds, rubber molds, and much more.  This material machines up to 50% faster than P20 Mod. and is supplied pre-hardened at 29-33 HRC.  PX5® never requires stress relieving and has remarkable welding characteristics.  This material is available in Plate, Block, and Round bar forms.

S1 is an oil hardening shock resisting cold work die steel.  This grade has largely been replaced by more modern materials but is still utilized in specific applications.  It can be sourced in Plate, Block, and Round Bar forms.  The optimal hardness range is 49-56 HRC.

Superplast StainlessⓇ (30-34 Rc)

Our Superplast® material is a pre-hardened free-machining stainless mold steel that has been specifically engineered for plastic mold bases.  This material has improved machinability, stability, and welding capabilities when compared to other similar grades. Our Superplast® material is available in Plate form.  The hardness range for this pre-hard material is 30-34 HRC.

Toolox 44Ⓡ (45 Rc)

Toolox 44® is specialized quenched and tempered steel has been developed to have high impact and low residual stresses with good dimensional stability.  This material is provided pre-hard at 41-47 HRC with the nominal at 45 HRC.  It has better thermal conductivity than H13 and is capable of a #1 Lens Quality polish.  Toolox 44® is available in Plate and limited sizes in Round Bar forms.

Viscount 44®

Viscount 44® pre-hardened H13 type free machining hot work die steel.  This material offers good dimensional stability in combination with good wear resistance and toughness.  Viscount 44®is available in Round Bar and Drill Rod forms.  This material is supplied pre-hard at  42-46 HRC.

W1

W1 is a general purpose easy machining water hardening cold work die steel.  When heat treated W1 develops a hard wear resistant case and a tough inner core.  The optimal hardness range is 55-64 HRC.

Z-420 PMⓇ

Z-420 PM® is a true 420 powdered metal. This material is excellent for use where high abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance are required. Some examples are injection molds and injection screw barrels, and high end medical tooling. It’s available in Plate, Block, and Round bar forms.

Z-MaxⓇ

Z-Max® is an ultra high end and performance powdered metal. This grade reaches a hardness of 68-70 Rc. and has maximum levels of red hardness, wear resistance, and compressive strength. It’s recommenced for heavy duty applications and is a good choice when the toughness of carbide is questionable.

Z-TuffⓇ

This powdered metal grade bridges the gap between traditional cold work die steels and high performance powdered metals. It has remarkable toughness and compressive strength while also being highly chip resistant.

Z-WearⓇ

Z-Wear® is highly versatile powdered metal tool steel. It offers high toughness, good wear resistance and chip resistance. It is a proven choice for a wide range of applications.
